From Mpumalanga to the Screen: Sipho Mbele on acting, IsiNdebele & 23 years in Radio

Sipho Mbele is a God fearing Man, loving father who was born and bred in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. He is a legendary actor, author, Radio presenter and producer who is now residing in Pretoria due to work. A wonderful and caring human being with a good heart who always want to see other people succeeding in life.

“I worked at Metro FM, Radio 2000, SAFM and have 23 years’ experience in the radio industry. I remember starting back in 1997 in soapies, I left big institution because I fell in love with acting from high School and loved to be in front of people. I also wrote many songs for musicians, did lot of voice over on radio, TV adverts till focusing more on acting. I acted more in IsiZulu because IsiNdebele was not there at school during our times, so most productions sometimes-needed people who can speak pure IsiZulu. My accent or tone did not match so I lost many jobs because of that”, he said.

Multitalented legend appeared in many soapies such as ‘Muvhango’, ‘iKani’, ‘DiepCity’, ‘Legacy’, ‘My Brother’s Keeper, ‘Mthunzini.com, ‘Soul City’, ‘Jacob’s Cross’, ‘The Queen’, ‘Komkhulu’, ‘Love Law and Betrayal’, Swart Water, Swartwater, ‘Makoti’, ‘Pimville’, “Love, Sex and 30 Candles” on Netflix, and adverts like SIMBA, AVBOB and many more”. “The best highlight of my career was ‘KOMKHULU” because it was pure iSiNdebele story with a mixture of SiSwati, I was a leading actor there.

The best actors I have ever worked with are the late Shona Ferguson, Mitchel Botes and Andile Ncube. I am busy with ‘AMALANGA AWAFANI’ season2 that airing on SABC1 every Monday’s to Friday’s at 18:30PM and the other one that is coming is STOKFELA for MZANSI Magic,” he said. His best advice to aspiring actors, radio presenters and all artists is to be unique because the industry is not for faint-hearted people.

“I would advise them to go to school because this industry now needs people who are educated and there are lot of technical and script reading. Even though there directors, this must be a calling not just you want to be seen on TV , a No today could be yes tomorrow don’t ever give up, Also do not come into industry because you want to be famous, be passionate and get ready to push harder”, he concluded.
