A water-bottling brand that embodies its commitment to enriching communities.
By Gerda Potgieter

Enriching less-privileged communities benefits both the people directly affected and society. There are ethical, practical, and economic reasons to enrich communities. The aQuellé water-bottling brand's mission includes community outreach. Its mission is to spread a message of hope to people from all nations. All profits from the sale of the brand's water are reinvested to support the work of the KwaSizabantu Mission, where two of its three plants are based.

This includes providing three free, nutritious meals daily to more than 1,200 people at the Mission's station and welcoming tens of thousands of visitors each year for various events. Additionally, aQuellé funds a range of community outreach and humanitarian projects. aQuellé is a well-known South African brand that offers natural spring water and flavoured beverages, sourced directly from a pristine underground spring in KwaZulu-Natal.

As a community-based organisation, aQuellé's very reason for existence is to uplift people and improve quality of life, and it upholds its brand values every day. The company is involved in a broad spectrum of projects to support communities across South Africa. With its three bottling plants in different locations, it has increased job opportunities, assisted small businesses, created sustainable livelihoods, improved conditions, and given children better prospects.

aQuellé has delivered a broad range of community projects, including the distribution of water to needy communities, clean-up initiatives for neglected public spaces, support during pandemics and natural disasters, diabetes awareness campaigns, and local feeding schemes throughout the year. It responds to calls for help and relief. Additionally, it sponsors a wide range of sporting events and funds the hosting of KwaSizabantu's biannual youth and ministers' conferences. aQuellé has already supplied 25 large water tanks to communities and schools affected by water shortages.

This outreach addressed a significant challenge faced by too many South African communities. Talent exists in every community. When people lack access to quality education and opportunities, society may miss out on innovators, leaders, artists, and entrepreneurs who could make valuable contributions. Helping those less privileged is a way to create a fairer, more prosperous, and more stable society by enabling more people to reach their potential. South Africans are widely recognised for their efforts to enrich and uplift communities.

However, the country continues to face significant challenges, including inequality, poverty, and unemployment, which result in crime. The need is high, the help is insufficient, and the current government lacks accountability for mismanagement and looting of state funding. More organisations, such as aQuellé, are needed to address socioeconomic challenges through community outreach. By working together, we can all make a difference in the lives of those less privileged than we are.
